Hodgepodge

Filed under: General — tansqrx @ 3:29 pm

Well I have been searching for a good forum that discusses Yahoo! from a technical point of view for quite some time and I have found a site that comes closer than the rest. I have been a user of YahElite for over a year. I never really poked around on their site until a few weeks ago. Turns out that they have a good forum (forum.yahelite.org) that has many regular posters. Still not exactly what I am looking for but it is a good start. If you know a good site that has good technical Yahoo! Messenger and Chat updates let me know.

In other belated news, looks like Yahoo! has pulled the plug on the older Java version of their chat protocol. A message posted on the Yahoo! chat main page signaled the change away from the older protocol. Service was interrupted world wide for several hours while the change was made. It does not look like anything else has changed with this last update but we will have to wait and see. Personally I thought Yahoo! had completely forgotten about their chat network due to obvious neglect over the past year. I was surprised to find out that they even had programmers and engineers still working on chat. I suppose they had to start working on it again due to the upcoming MSN cross-over.

Speaking of MSN, does anyone have any information on the “merger”? Will only the messenger clients be able to talk or will it cross over into the chat world. I know that MSN has their own chat rooms but from what I can tell they make Yahoo! chat look like a bright shining jewel in the chat world. Will voice and webcams also cross over? Will a Yahoo! user be able to see when a MSN user has their webcam on? And does this open MSN to all of those nasty Yahoo! webcam programs?

I need users! (and maybe a Wiki)

I need more users. I would like to have this site grow and one day be the premier site for all Yahoo! protocols and programming. To my knowledge there is not one single site on the Internet besides mine that is here to serve pure academic information for Yahoo! programmers. If there is let me know because I have been looking for years. If for whatever reason you are sitting at your computer reading this please let me know a few things. How did you get here, is this site something you could use, what would make it more attractive to you, and what should I do to get more users.

I would eventually like to add a wiki to the site but right now there is only me and maybe two other people in the world that has even been to the site. There is just no user base to support such a useful feature.
